Congress announces Lok Sabha candidates for Assam
The Congress party has officially announced its candidates for various Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam. Gaurav Gogoi, the Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, will contest from Jorhat, while Pradyut Bordoloi, a seasoned party leader and incumbent MP from Nagaon, will seek re-election from his constituency.
Rakibul Hussain, another prominent Congressman
and Deputy CLP Leader has been nominated to contest from Dhubri Lok Sabha
constituency. The central election committee of the All India Congress
Committee (AICC) has finalized 12 party candidates from Assam, leaving the
Dibrugarh constituency for its ally, the Assam Jatiya Parishad, which is part
of the 16-party United Opposition Forum, Assam.
Among the other Congress candidates nominated
in the AICC list are Garjan Mashahary for Kokrajhar, Deep Bayan for Barpeta,
Madhab Rajbanshi for Darrang-Udalguri, Mira Borthakur Goswami for Guwahati,
Joyram Engleng for Diphu, Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury for Karimganj, Surjya
Kanta Sarkar for Silchar, Roselina Tirkey for Kaziranga, and Prem Lal Ganju for
Sonitpur.
It's worth noting that Abdul Khaleque, a
veteran Congress leader and sitting MP from Barpeta, did not secure a ticket in
this election cycle. Additionally, a decision regarding the candidate for the
remaining seat, Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency, is yet to be made.
