The human body is a fascinating subject to explore. Our body’s complexity has been studied since around the 3rd century BC, and yet, the incredible field of human anatomy which has advanced in leaps and bounds since then, still continues to astound us with new facts and capabilities in 2022. Of its multiple components, our nervous system is a significant field, and issues related to it are categorized as neurological issues. However, from the point of view of a common man, issues related to the heart that falls under the cardiovascular system are more regularly emphasized in comparison to neurological issues. This has led to lesser awareness about the neurological disorders among the common masses, especially in India.

As per a study conducted by Lancet Global Health states that the rate of non-communicable neurological disorders in India has doubled in the past two decades - from 1990 to 2019. One of the striking reasons behind it can be linked to delayed detection of complex neurological disorders due to the low rate of awareness among the general population in India, as mentioned above. Moreover, many cardiological disorders give rise to neurological complications as well. In this context, it is important to raise the awareness level among the common people about the complex issues related to neurology and its scope of treatment - so that early detection can help prevent potential health risks in future.

Common Neurological Disorders In India

In India, more than 30 million people are thought to suffer from neurological disorders. People who suffer from neurological problems may find their daily lives affected, which may also leave them crippled and less confident. Despite the fact that there are several neurological problems, we will discuss some of the most common ones today, along with treatment options.

Some of the common neurological disorders include -

  • Alzheimer’s Disease

  • Migraine

  • Parkinson’s Disease

  • Strokes

  • Epilepsy & Seizures

  • Brain Tumours

If these neurological problems are not addressed on time, they can lead to numerous severe illnesses and make life miserable for the sufferer. Strokes, epilepsy, seizures, and headaches are a few of the prevalent neurological diseases that Indians experience as a result of their high mass index, unhealthy eating patterns, high blood pressure, and air pollution.

Scope of Treatment for Neurological Issues

Neurological disorders are treated differently depending on their severity. It mainly includes medicinal drugs, therapies, stimulation and surgeries. Doctors primarily use medicinal therapy (non-invasive) as a first line of treatment. In certain instances, however, invasive procedures such as surgeries are required to cure complex neurological disorders as a first line of treatment.

Neurological Treatment in Assam

Almost all hospitals and clinics in Assam have a neurology department to tend to neurological issues of patients. But when it comes to seeking treatment options, many people rely on word of mouth to choose a suitable specialist for consultation. However, due to limited awareness on neurological issues, word of mouth recommendations for neuro specialists are also limited, and hence, many people do not know whom to approach for proper consultation in times of need.

In light of the surge of neurological cases in India, there is a need to raise the awareness level on the various neurological disorders, and offer accurate diagnosis and treatment options to patients. This is what Neurocare Assam has been doing lately through its social media presence in Facebook and Instagram - a dedicated platform which caters to neurological issues and raises general awareness among people.

Founded by two neurologists from Assam, Dr Kishore Kr Sarma and Dr Hriday Haloi, Neurocare Assam offers quality care and on-time diagnosis of various neurological issues followed by carefully prepared treatment plans in Assam. Both doctors are available for consultation in Guwahati, Nagaon, Hojai and Nalbari throughout the week. The detailed schedule of their availability can be checked at www.neurocareassam.com.

Additionally, the platform has introduced a free tele-consultation facility for people all across Assam who can avail consultation on neurological matters over a call. At present the facility is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Whereas, offline appointments for in-person consultation can be requested through their website as per their visiting schedule.

The platform offers a promising scope in not only offering healthcare services in the field of neurology but is also committed to raise the awareness level among the people to help them undergo early detection and timely management of their neurological health problems.
