Inspired by the timeless message of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s iconic song “Manuhe Manuhor Babe”, members of the GPS Alumni Association came together on 3 August to extend a helping hand to more than 125 flood-affected families in Ramu Gaon and Deodhai in Sivasagar district.

The song's enduring message that humanity begins with standing beside another human being found a meaningful expression through this relief initiative. Essential items were distributed among affected families as a small gesture of solidarity during a difficult time.

The initiative was led by President Kumar Kashyap Konwar and General Secretary Sasanka Das, along with senior members Rajib Sharma and Raj Kumar Medhi. Sandeepan Goswami, Pubali Goswami, Juthika Talukdar, Bhabna and Ramanand Gupta joined the relief visit, while several other alumni contributed their time and support to make the effort possible.

The initiative also drew inspiration and encouragement from senior alumni members including Arundhuti Das, Seema Das, Utpal Kumar Baishya, Hiranmoy Das, Ayushman Acharya, Ranjit Chakrabarty, Debojit Goswami, Gautam Patowary and many others, whose continued commitment to community service has inspired alumni across generations.

For the alumni, this was more than a relief distribution. It was an opportunity to put into practice a simple yet powerful idea that has resonated across Assam for generations: when one person reaches out to another, humanity becomes stronger.

Floods may take away homes, livelihoods, and belongings, but compassion can remind people that they have not been forgotten.

The initiative carries forward the values nurtured at Guwahati Public School - values of empathy, responsibility, and service that continue to live through its alumni long after they leave the classroom.

Because, as Bhupen Hazarika reminded us through his music, the greatest strength of humanity lies in standing by one another.
