After two state board exams were postponed because of question papers getting leaked, Assam Education Minister RanojPegu said the entire examination system is being analyzed and rectified.

A day after the class 10th general science question paper was leaked, the Assamese question paper was also leaked, stated Chief Minister HimantaBiswaSarma, adding that the Assamese board exam was being postponed because of the leak.

The SEBA stands for Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) which conducts state board examinations. SEBA was established in 1962 under the Assam Secondary Education Act, of 1961. SEBA is also responsible for preparing the syllabus, textbooks, and other educational materials for the students.

Apart from conducting the examinations, SEBA also provides various services to students such as issuing certificates, mark sheets, and other necessary documents. The board also provides training and support to teachers to improve the quality of education in the state.

SEBA plays a crucial role in shaping the future of students in Assam and is committed to providing quality education to all.

It is well-known that there have been several instances of exam paper leaks in Assam in past years, including those conducted by SEBA. These incidents have caused a lot of stress and anxiety among the students, and have put their futures at risk.

Exam paper leaks not only compromise the integrity of the examination system but also undermine the hard work and efforts of honest students. It also raises questions about the competence and responsibility of the board in safeguarding the interests of the students.

It is the responsibility of SEBA to ensure that the examination process is conducted in a fair and transparent manner and that the integrity of the examination system is maintained. The board needs to take strong measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future and to restore the confidence of the students and their parents in the examination system.

There have been several incidents in the past where the SEBA exams have been marred by various incidents and irregularities. Some examples of such incidents include:

Paper leaks: As mentioned, paper leaks have been the most common type of irregularity in SEBA exams. There have been several instances where question papers have been leaked before the exam, compromising the integrity of the exam.

Burning of answer sheets: In 2016, the incident of burning around 600 answer scripts of the HSLC exam conducted by the SEBA in Jorhat evoked statewide protests by student organizations, matric examinees, and their parents. This incident led to a delay in the declaration of results and caused a lot of stress and anxiety among the students.

Missing answer sheets: An incident of answer sheets of the HSLC exam were reported missing from a school in the Morigaon district.

Answer sheets eaten by cows: In 2012, there were reports of cows eating answer sheets in the Goalpara district of Assam.

Error in evaluation: There have been many instances where errors have been detected in the evaluation of answer sheets, leading to incorrect marks being awarded to the students. This can have serious consequences for the future of the students.

These incidents highlight the need for SEBA to take proactive measures to prevent such irregularities from happening in the future and to ensure that the interests of the students are safeguarded. It is essential that the board takes a responsible approach to address these issues and work towards improving the overall quality and integrity of the examination system.

SEBA must be accountable for any mistakes or lapses on their part, and take corrective measures to minimize the impact of such incidents on the students. It is essential that the board takes a proactive approach to address these issues and work towards ensuring that the future of the students is not compromised due to any negligence or incompetence on their part.
