The legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses returned to Mumbai on May 17, 2025, after more than a decade, igniting the Mahalaxmi Racecourse with a set that was equal parts nostalgia and endurance. For fans who had waited years, it was an emotional high, though not without a few flat notes along the way.

A Thunderous Welcome

Opening with the explosive “Welcome to the Jungle,” the band set the tone with raw energy and crowd-gripping familiarity. Slash’s signature riffs cut through the night air like a razor, drawing deafening cheers from the audience. It was the perfect entry — feral, gritty, and gloriously loud.

A Mid-Set Disconnect

However, as the band delved into tracks from the Chinese Democracy album, the connection began to waver. While the musicianship remained tight, the crowd’s engagement noticeably dipped. The lesser-known material, though performed with intensity, lacked the emotional weight and familiarity of their earlier catalog, and some fans seemed momentarily adrift.

Final Stretch: Redemption in Full Force

The final half-hour was a triumphant return to form. Back-to-back classics reignited the audience’s energy, turning the Racecourse into a roaring sea of fists and phone lights. “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” “Paradise City,” and “November Rain” swept the crowd into collective euphoria.

Sound, Stamina, and Showmanship

Technically, the sound production was top-tier — crisp, loud, and immersive. Axl Rose, though aging and at times visibly straining, delivered a surprisingly strong vocal performance. While he did lose connection at moments, he was smartly supported by powerful backup vocals that filled in the gaps and lifted the melodies.

A Relentless Core Trio

What stood out most was the non-stop synergy of the core trio — Axl, Slash, and Duff McKagan. Their chemistry, despite the years, remained unmistakably electric. For nearly three hours, they barely paused, reminding everyone why GNR remains one of rock’s most enduring live acts.

Final Verdict

While not a flawless performance, the Mumbai concert was a compelling showcase of resilience, raw talent, and rock history. Guns N’ Roses may not be the same band they were in the '90s, but when the stars align — as they did for much of the night — they still deliver thunder.
